• UNIVERSITY OF ST ANDREWS (PSYCHOLOGY & NEUROSCIENCE)

    DR MAGGIE ELLIS

Dementia Friendly St Andrews is a non for profit organisation created by a team of volunteers who have a shared vision to improve the facilities and lives of those affected by dementia in and around our beautiful and historic home of St Andrews. As a group of volunteers we are committed to raising the funds required to help provide much needed education and awareness for understanding the needs of those with dementia. This includes working together with schools, community groups, businesses and public sector workers amongst other.

    How to Help
  • WORDS OF SUPPORT FROM

    BARONESS SUSAN GREENFIELD

As an honorary graduate and friend of the University of St Andrews, I am delighted to lend my support to the Dementia Friendly Communities initiative. Dementia is a subject that is close to my heart and one that affects us all in one way or another. The work that Dr Maggie Ellis is heading will involve the whole community working together to make St Andrews a more dementia friendly place to live. The more we learn about the condition, the more we can help those with a diagnosis and those who care for them. I wish St Andrews the very best of luck in this venture and will be very interested to hear of its impact.

    HOW TO HELP
  • THUMBS UP FROM WILLIE RENNIE - LEADER OF SCOTTISH LIBERAL DEMOCRATS

“That this House recognises the commitment of businesses and organisations in St Andrews to make the town a Dementia friendly Community; and celebrates the efforts of those involved in the campaign to work together to help people with dementia remain a part of their community and become apart from it, reduce stigma and raise awareness of the benefits of maximising the retained skills and social connection help by people living with dementia.” STEPHEN GETHINS, MP NORTH EAST FIFE

    HOW TO HELP

‘Thumbs Up’ for Dementia Friendly St Andrews

Anyone affected by dementia in either a parent, friend or relative will know of the impact it can have. Without the understanding of those around them, people living with the condition and those who care for them face significant frustration. All of us here in St Andrews can learn to help individuals living with dementia by learning a bit about the condition.

We are looking for a ‘Thumbs Up to a Dementia Friendly St Andrews’ and we will use these images to show a visual picture of our community showing its support for a worthy and compassionate cause.

REMEMBER: Take your pictures with a BRICK WALL as the background. This is to symbolise the barriers faced by those with dementia. Barriers that we can help to knock down!

Thank you and please pass along to your friends in the community. Together we CAN make a difference.

DONATE NOW

All we need right now however is a gesture of your support by taking a ‘selfie’ and uploading it to the Facebook page.  https://www.facebook.com/dementiafriendlystandrews/
